Photographer Sandra Ratkovic searched for street art in the countryside.
“In doing so, she has stretched a wide arc, not only looking for spray paint art (...) It exists here, too, in the typical places.
But Sandra Ratkovic's gaze is broader and is foremost directed at everything that colonises the view in the villages as a creative surplus and thus creates something like a self-encounter.
She combines conceptual work with the special quality that is indispensable for such tasks: the finding gaze.
"I work with what is," says Sandra Ratkovic, meaning two things.
Showing what is and showing it in such a way that the pictures begin to speak in their conceptual respect. (...)
Her pictures are authentic, not posed, but how they are photographed sets thought processes in motion.
In a way, it is sociology with the camera, which makes developments, facts, moods visible, which tend to blur in the visual background noise and submerge from attention.”
(Dr. Thomas Behnke in the catalogue Street Art in the Countryside)
The photographs were created during a scholarship at Kunstverein Donnersbergkreis.
The photo-book will be also presented at the exhibition.
Sandra Ratkovic (*1980, Frankfurt/Main) is a photographer from Berlin.
She is interested in transformations in society and how they affect the lives of people and their visual surroundings – landscapes and cityscapes.
