Tomo Avalean
Escapade, 2023, oil on muslin, 60 x 75 cm
Tomo Avalean is a recent graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design. An emotional painter at heart, they cultivate imagery catering towards life through a queer body and how the physical form interacts environmentally and socially.
Their work lingers on the questions of intimacy and individuality, wondering how two can be one and challenging where the line between the ‘me’ and the ‘us’ truly lies. Natural forms and patterns are accompanied into many works elaborating on growth, decay, and renewal. The body and nature are constantly in conversation.
Now beginning to plant roots in Berlin, Avalean seeks to expand their craft as well as continue to play in their realm. This will be a time of letting language dip its toes into new mediums and vessels.
